Happy Endings - Adoption Success Stories
It is unfortunate that often only the tragedies of life are shown - the abandoned, lost or sick animals. Therefore, it is our pleasure to showcase some of the Happy Endings - the Humane Society's success stories. We pay tribute to our volunteers, workers, and wonderful supporters who find places in their homes and in their hearts for the Humane Society Shelter animals. Although life is a constant struggle at the Humane Society just trying to keep afloat financially so we can help animals in need, the Society's hardworking volunteers and staff with your help bring much happiness not only to the lives of animals in need, but also to many people in our community who experience the joy of sharing life with one or more of their new pet friends.

Volunteer Forms?
3:52 PM, Wed Aug 10, 2011.jpg)
We came in to get volunteer forms. And we left with a dog. I guess we volunteered, in a way. Bently (Rusty when we got him) is a loving, fun, energetic Jack Chi (Jack Russel terrier/Chiwawa mix).
It's hard to imagine what he went though, abuse, neglect and worse. Bently was found outside of Geraldton walking on the side of the highway. Skinny and worn out from all the walking, he was still cheerful.
It took Bently a while to get used to being around people, but now he sits there with his favourite toy in his mouth waiting for you to toss it. Bently's the center of attention. Everyone just loves him. We've had him for a year and a half and we can't wrap our minds around who would do this to such a loving dog.
Thanks to all the Humane Society staff and volunteers who took care of Bently when he was there.
Barks and Kisses,
Torey and Bently.
Our Valentine Love

We (Jordana and I) came by on Valentine's Day 2010 to adopt a dog and fell in love with Kobe. Kobe was in your care since August, and having lived with him for two months we can't imagine why he wasn't adopted sooner. We can totally see how the staff and volunteers at the Humane Society spoke affectionately about him.
Kobe has become the centre of our universe. He's so well behaved and affectionate. Kobe spends his weekdays at his Lola's for 'doggy day care' and the rest of the time he is spoiled with walks, treats and TLC (he has his very own couch to sleep on). Kobe seems very content and we're thrilled to have him in our lives.
Thank you to the staff and volunteers who helped look after Kobe when he was in your care. Thanks also to the family that trained him and loved him as long as they could.
Paws and puppy kisses,
Kobe, Jordana and Brendan
Remember Gracie?
5:34 PM, Thu Apr 15, 2010
I was lucky enough to make a happy dog even happier thanks to the Humane Society!
I recently adopted Gracie (who is now known as Minna, which is a Finn name for a girl). She has 40 acres in the country to roam. She loves to hunt squirrels and birds, but never goes too far from the house (which is good!). She loves riding in the truck, going for walks and running when I go for bike rides. She is registered for obedience in a few weeks and has a lot to learn, which she does so quickly! She is one smart cookie!
A Friend says "you have to see this dog"
3:58 PM, Tue Mar 23, 2010

I had to include the picture from the Humane Society that was sent to me by a friend, which spurred the whole process of adopting Sunshine; now know as Juno.
The story as told to me... Juno was taken from her original owner for neglect, weighing only 30lbs at 6 months, when she should of been around 50lbs. One month of good eating and a cramped environment and her weight jumped to 60lbs! After being adopted on May 8th, 2009 she is now eating healthy, doing great and loving life with her 'brother' Oakley (adopted from Animal Services) who can be seen in a couple of the candid shots included.
Home At Last!
11:35 AM, Fri Mar 12, 2010
Hello all you wonderful people at the humane society! Just wanted to let you know that Inglis is doing very well in his new home here with us (Though we have changed his name to Louis! Couldn't resist, not with those adorable little vampire teeth of his!).
Louis (who is actually sleeping curled up next to me as a write this!) is doing wonderfully. He gets along fabulous with our two other cats (which are also rescue cats-- Resolute and Seto) and he has lots of fun playing with them at all hours. Resolute has taken a special interest in him, and makes sure to groom Louis when the little guy forgets! Though, following Res and Seto's example, Louis is now grooming himself regularly (even if he needs help from Res now and then!)
Louis has even taken to sleeping by my head or feet at night, so it seems like he is super happy. Even Seto, my grumpy old man kitty, likes to play with him! Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that he is doing well in his new home =) Jessa
Smokie is now forever home!
2:46 PM, Sat Feb 06, 2010
Adopting Smokie sure is a Happy Ending for all of us here. We just love her to death; have a few little things we all need to work on, but nothing serious and our cat, Sassy is still alive and well, so that is a good thing. Smokie is still very close to me, which I love but she is bonding very well with her new Father as he spends the whole day with her. We have registered her with K-9 for training starting in March. She obviously has already had a fair bit of training, cause she really does listen pretty good. She is really such a pretty dog, beautiful face.
Thank you guys so much for what each and everyone of you do there for the animals in Thunder Bay. I think my decision to volunteer there is the greatest thing I have ever done. Madison (my granddaughter) and I always leave there with a smile on our face - we get so much in return. I brag to everyone I come in contact with what an amazing place it is, the animals are so well looked after and are given so much love, that is why the people who adopt the animals are so pleased with the outcome. I can hardly wait till I am retired at the end of this year and I will help out there as much as I can and do whatever you need me to do to help.

All the way home!

Just thought you would like an update on Hershey. We adopted Hershey in July 2009. He has become a member of our family. Everyone just loves him. He is definitely not a barker. During the summer months, he enjoyed spending the weekends out at camp going for boat rides, walks and playing with our two children. He doesn't like loud sounds. He is very well behaved and listens very well. He sure does like to sleep though. He's got his own bed on the floor in our bedroom. We've never had such a wonderful pet. At night around 9pm, he'll go to the bedroom to his bed and come out every few minutes and look at us as if to say "Come on guys! It's time to go to sleep!" He sure likes to sleep. He snores quite loudly at night but we love him just the same. He is very laid back. At times, we suspect that he thinks he's a cat. When one of us goes to sit on the couch, Hershey will climb up on the couch and cuddle right up. In December, Hershey made a friend. A cute little white cat began hanging around Hershey outside and did not leave our patio for weeks on end waiting to play with Hershey. We eventually let the cat in since it did not have a home. They have been friends ever since and can often be found sleeping together by the patio doors looking outside.
Hershey is a very smart dog. He is able to unhook his chain from his collar within minutes of being put outside. We have found a solution to this problem by putting a body harness on him. When walking Hershey, he does pull very hard when using just his collar and a leash. The body harness works very well for him. Hershey is also afraid of the dark and will often be very reluctant to go outside at night to do his business. He will go but only long enough to do his duties and come back inside.
Thank you so much for allowing us to bring Hershey into our home.
Pepper
1:46 PM, Sun Jan 31, 2010
I just wanted to send a quick note to tell you how much we ADORE our beautiful dog Pepper! We adopted him last Oct, and he fit right in to our family! Sadly, we lost our older doggy to cancer about a month after we got Pepper, which was really hard on our family. But with Pepper around, I believe he made the transition a little easier. He's my son's best friend! We've had him in training classes and he is SO smart and so obedient. We delighted to have him in our life.
He's become such an amazing runner, sometimes running up to 50KM in a day when he runs with both my husband and I....with no problem! He comes home after all that running and wants to play fetch with my son! :) We really do adore him. He's an amazing dog to have in the car, loves car rides, loves running....he loves everything we love to do, He's perfect for us!
Thank you so much for letting us adopt him! :)
Juliet and Buster
4:29 PM, Sun Dec 27, 2009
Juliet and Buster are now called Cinder and Chance. Cinder is from Timbers litter and Chance was formerly Buster. Cinder is very intelligent, playful, social, loving and thinks everbody is her best friend. While she wasn't very affectionate when she first came home, she is now the biggest snuggle-bug you would ever meet. She can't function in the morning until she gets her cuddle. She trained very well and heels, sits, stays, lays-down, begs, shakes a paw, bows, rolls-over, crawls etc. Her range of expressions is endless and she keeps us laughing.
When Chance first arrived home we expected to be in for a few long months of training, but he morphed into the perfect dog over the course of a couple of days. He is quiet and loving and just tries so very hard to please us.
Jason and I find ourselves saying "I can't believe how GOOD he is.
They have done so much to ease the passing of our beloved Retriever Cross, Dylanne, who we lost in June 2009 at age 12. Cinder and Chance have definitely helped us heal and bring a lot of love back into our house. Crystal & Jason.
Her name is Ginger.
3:59 PM, Sun Dec 27, 2009
Ginger was adopted March of 2008. She was under weight and a little stressed out when we got her. I have worked very hard towards rehabilitating her and she has come a long way. I am constantly receiving compliments on what a beautiful coat she has and how well she looks. When we first got her, she did not know what to make of the water, now she swims non-stop, fetches balls and swims after ducks and boats. Which ever catches her attention. She is a healthy, happy dog who is loved a lot . She is very special in our hearts and I do not know what I would do without such a dog, so full of character.
Thank you, Lauren, for the update and lovely picture.
